Colugo Flying Lemur Skull
Size: 3.1 in / 8 cm
Cost: $120
(+ shipping)
Note:
"Colugo" is the original Malaysian word for the animal.
Although it is also called a "Malayan flying lemur," it is not
a lemur and it does not fly - but it is found in Malaysia. It
belongs to its own order, called Dermoptera (Latin for
"skin-wing"), and it merely glides on the wind currents rather
than flying like a bat or a bird. The colugo is about
house-cat-sized. It has a flat body with a flowing membrane of
skin stretched from its neck out to the fingers, and then down
along the sides of body to the toes and the tip of the tail. It
has large eyes, long limbs, and its feet have sharp, curved
claws for grasping trees after gliding. Although it is call a
"Malayan flying lemur," it is not a lemur and it does not fly,
but it is found in Malaysia. It belongs to its own order,
called Dermoptera (Latin for skin-wing), and it merely glides
on the wind currents rather than flying like a bat or a bird.
Its fur is gray or brown with white spots along the back. Its
head and body length is 13 to 15 in, and it weighs between 2
and 3 lbs.

Ringtail Lemur Skull
Size: 3.3 in / 8.5 cm
Cost: $160
(+ shipping)
Note: "Lemur"
is Latin for "ghostlike," coined by Linneaus (the man who
started naming animals in Latin), because it has a ghostlike
face and it is active at night. This is a cat-sized animal with
a fairly agile, sleek body and pointed snout. The soft,
relatively long coat is gray with reddish coloring on top, and
very pale on the underside. It has clearly marked black and
white rings on its long tail - and thus its name. On its
forearms there are glands which secrete a strong-smelling
substance. Length of head and body about 17 in, tail about 20
in; weight 5 to 8 lbs.

Baboon(Mandrillus sphinx)
Classification: Order Primates
Description:
The average body mass for an adult male mandrill is between 21
and 28 kilograms, and for the female it is between 11 and 12
kilograms. The incisors of this species are broad and
high-crowned. This species has pronounced maxillary ridges. The
mandrill has a relatively short tail. The pelage color ranges
from dark brown to charcoal-gray. The penis of the male is
colored red and the scrotum has a lilac color. The face also has
bright coloration like the genitalia and this develops in only
the dominant male of a multi-male group. Females and juveniles
have a duller blue snout and a buffy colored beard. The dominant
male also tends to have a relatively heavier rump, larger
testes, and higher plasma testosterone levels.

Siamang Gibbon Skull
Size: 5.8 in / 14.6 cm
Cost: $220
(+ shipping)
Note: The
Siamang, native to Southeast Asia, is the largest of the
gibbons with an arm length of 1.5 meters. Considered a lesser
ape, gibbons are known for their remarkable gymnastic ability.
Gibbons live an arboreal life, high above the forest floor.
Their long arms have evolved to allow for a graceful, almost
ballet-like movement as they swing from branch to branch. This
specialized form of locomotion is referred to as Brachiating.

White-Handed Gibbon Skull
Cost: $220
(+ shipping)
Note: The
White-handed gibbon, like the gorilla, chimpanzee and
orangutan, is an ape, not a monkey. The chief characteristics
distinguishing apes from monkeys are the absence of a tail,
their more or less upright posture and the high development of
their brain. The White-handed gibbon (also know as the Lar
gibbon) has a black to pale brown or yellowish-gray fur body,
with white hair framing a black naked face. The palms of the
hand and soles of the feet are also free of fur and white in
color, hence its name. The animal's long arms and grasping
hands with thumb, contribute to its ability to swing through
the trees. Adult males weigh 10-20 lbs., females are slightly
smaller. Dense fluffy fur keeps these animals cool in hot
temperatures, and also presents a larger image to predators.
The tough, horny pads on their buttocks are fused to the hip
bones and are indispensable to this animal that builds no nest.
The pads provide some protection when the gibbon rests on bare
tree limbs.

Sooty Mangabey
Note: The
mangabey's body is powerful although its form is slender, with
very long legs. Its relatively short tail is stiff and held
raised at an acute angle. The coat on the back is gray, while
the underside is white, and on the head there is a reddish
brown cap. The mangabey reaches about 26 inches, adding about
the same for its tail, and it weighs about 25 lbs. The sooty
mangabey lives in small groups of 4 to 12 individuals,
preferably on the ground and among the lower layers of the
forest. It moves nimbly among the branches of trees, but its
movements are always unhurried and sure-footed. The tail is
partly prehensile and helps it to hold onto branches. It feeds
on plant matter, but also eats insects and birds' eggs. It is a
very social animal, and the group has a highly developed
communications system, which functions by means of shrieks and
other sounds as well as by means of expressive facial gestures.
Its main enemy is the leopard.

Spider Monkey
Cost: $160
(+ shipping)
Note:
Ateles Paniscus; Adult male. This monkey has a
prominent face, which is hairless, and has white rings around
the eyes. The body is covered with pale-colored, bristly fur.
The legs are long and the hands have virtually no thumb. Length
of head and body 15 to 25 in, tail even longer at 20 to 36 in;
weight about 13 lbs. It lives in groups of 2 to 8 individuals
with the group splitting up during feeding. The group roams
around its own territorial area following fixed routes, in
search of fruit and nuts. If an alien monkey or other animal
enters the territory, the members of the group approach it
emitting shrill cries to scare it away. But the aggressivity of
these monkeys is something of a facade, because if the intruder
holds his ground, the spider monkeys simply move off in the
opposite direction.

gorilla is the largest of the primates. the head is especially
large, and it has highly developed chest muscles. The shape of
its face varies somewhat, as do its facial expressions. Its
ears are relatively small, and the nostrils are always flared.
The coat is black, but has silver highlights in adult males,
when it is referred to as a silverback. When a gorilla is older
than ten years the whole coat tends to turn gray. In colder
parts of the gorilla's range, the coat tends to be shaggier,
and longer. A full-grown gorilla can stand well over six feet
tall when upright, and can weigh up to 500 lbs, but the female
is much smaller.

Chimpanzee Skull
Size: 8.25 in / 21.0 cm
Cost: $230
(+ shipping)
Note: The
color of the coat and face varies somewhat depending on age,
sex, and environment of the individual. Some old males are
silver-gray with an almost totally black face, but members of
this species are typically blackish brown. The ears are large
and, as in all apes, bare, and they are tailless. The standing
height of a full-grown chimpanzee can be up to four feet,
weighing about 110 pounds, with females slightly smaller. This
is both a tree-dwelling and a terrestrial animal, and it moves
with equal ease in both environments swinging from branch to
branch in the trees, or knuckle-walking on the ground. At night
it sleeps in large nests built in trees. It lives in groups
that are not strictly organized, and can number up to 40
individuals, but the basic relationship is between the mother
and her offspring, which remain with her for many years. The
chimpanzee is one of the most communicative animals and has a
complex repertoire of gestures and vocal sounds. It is a
fruit-eater, but has been observed in Tanzania to prey on the
colobus monkeys and even antelopes. Extremely intelligent, the
chimp can shape and use twig tools to obtain termites from
termite mounds.

Pygmy Chimpanzee Skull
Size: 8.9 in / 22.5 cm
Cost: $230
(+ shipping)
Note: The
bonobo is lacking in a tail as are all extant apes. The pelage
color is black and may turn more of a grayish color with age.
The forearms are longer than the hindlimbs, and the bonobo has
a short thumb. The average body mass for an adult male bonobo
is around 39 kilograms, and for the female it is around 30
kilograms. There is sexual dimorphism in the canines where the
males’ are longer than the canines of the female. The skull of
the bonobo is more gracile than Pan troglodytes and the limbs
are more slender (Fleagle, 1988). The bonobo is found in the
country of Zaire. This species prefers to live in dry, primary
forests in the crowns and the shrub levels of the forest.

American Marten Skull
Size: 33.3 in / 85 cm
Cost: $120
(+ shipping)
Note:
American martens are small, rare members of the weasel family.
Their fur is soft and thick, varying in color from pale buff or
yellow to reddish or dark brown. The animals' throats are pale
buff; their tails and legs are dark brown. Two vertical black
lines run above the inner corners of their eyes. In winter,
long hairs grow between the toe pads on the American martens'
feet. These keep the feet warm and enable the animals to travel
on snow. American martens have long, bushy tails that are
one-third of their total length. Like other species in the
weasel family, they differ in size according to sex. The female
is about three-fourths the size of the male. Sometimes people
confuse American martens with two other members of the weasel
family that live in Wisconsin, fishers (Martens pennati) and
stone martens (Martens foina). Fishers live in similar habitat
and have similar tracks. However, they're larger (females 20-27
inches, 4-8 pounds; males 30- 40 inches, 7-15 pounds) and
darker than American martens. Stone martens are a species
native to Europe and Asia. They were escaped into southern
Wisconsin in the early 1960s or 1970s, where they've
established a breeding population. Stone martens are 23-31
inches long (including the tail), weigh 1-4.5 pounds and are
pale gray to brown with a white throat patch.

together to sleep in an enclosed space like a hollow tree
trunk. At dusk they wake & split into family groups & go
searching for food. The groups forage separately all night,
each group defending its own territory of 15-20 acres. A
typical forging group consists of a single adult male, a

Potto Skull
Size: 2.4 in / 6.1 cm
Cost: $160
(+ shipping)
Note:
Peridicticus Potto; The average body mass for this
species is around 1100 grams. On the second digit of the foot
there is a claw for grooming. The first digit on the hands face
towards the other digits, and the second digit is reduced, thus
the potto has a strong grip. The lower cervical and upper
thoracic vertebrae are elongated, and these nuchal spines may
be related to the musculature of the shoulders and arms. The
index finger is vestigial. This species stores fat during the
wet season so as to be able to better survive the dry season.
The saliva of the potto has been found to contain volatiles,
and biting may be a defensive strategy for this species. This
species has long, black guard hairs found from the crown to the
scapular region. These guard hairs are specialized sensory
hairs. The pelage of the potto is brownish overall. The pelage
of the vnetral side is lighter than that of the dorsal side.
This species is found in the following countries: Benin,
Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast,
Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Togo, Uganda,
and Zaire. The potto lives in the canopy of primary forests. It
has also been reported that this species lives in mountain
forests and secondary forests. In secondary forests this
species occurs at height from 30 to 40 feet.

Slow Loris Skull
Size: 2.5 in / 6.3 cm
Cost: $120
(+ shipping)
Note:
Nycticebus Coucang. A plumper, shorter-limbed animal
than its relative the slender loris, the slow loris is,
however, similar in its habits. It spends the day sleeping up
in a tree, its body rolled into a tight ball. At night, it
feeds in the trees on insects, bird's eggs, small birds and
shoots and fruit, seldom coming down to the ground. A slow, but
accomplished, climber, its hands and feet are strong and
capable of grasping tightly. It can even hang by its feet. The
thumb and great toe are opposable to the other digits. Breeding
takes place at any time of year, and 1 young, sometimes 2, is
born after a gestation of 193 days. Slow lorises are thought to
live in family groups.
