Camel

Dromedary Camel Skull(Camelus Dromedarius)
Description: The coat is beige or a uniform pale brown, with the underside just slightly lighter. In adult camels, there are horny areas on the knees and elsewhere, where the limbs touch the ground while the animal is lying down. It has a single hump on its back, as opposed to the two of the bactrian camel, where fat is stored. The upper lip is deeply cleft and highly flexible. It can close one nostril at a time, to prevent sand from entering during a sand storm, and its eyes have an extra transparent lid to protect the eye against blowing sand. The dromedary grows to about ten feet long, seven feet at the shoulders. It weighs upwards of 1400 pounds. The capacity of the dromedary to endure extremely long periods without water through a variety of physiological mechanisms is unrivaled. Thus it has become one of the most valuable transports for the inhabitants of the desert. It is easily domesticated, and can carry heavy loads. When plenty of food is available it stores fat in its hump, which helps it during the long sandy treks across the desert without so much as a leaf for a snack.

Domestic Cow

Domestic Cow Skull (Bos Taurus)
Classification: Bovidae
Description: Modern cattle are divided into two species: B. taurus, which originated in Europe and includes most modern breeds of dairy and beef cattle, and B. indicus, which originated in India and is characterized by a hump at the withers. The latter are now widespread in Africa and Asia, with lesser numbers imported to North America (primarily in the southern United States), Central America, and northern and central South America. The general characteristics of cattle can be provided through their classification. They belong to the order Artiodactyla (even-toed, hoofed mammals) and the suborder Ruminantia (four-compartmented stomachs and a decreased number of teeth, with the upper incisors missing). Like others of the family Bovidae, they have paired, hollow, unbranched horns that do not shed. Other Bovidae that are so closely related to true cattle that they can still interbreed include the anoa, bison, gaur, Indian and African buffalo, and yak.

Deers

Asiatic Mouse Deer Female Skull (Tragulus Napu)
Description: The brown coat is speckled with white markings. The body is stocky, with rounded hindquarters. The legs are slender and the feet are four-toed, but the outer toes are small. It has 34 teeth. The upper canines in the male are longer and more pointed than those of the female. This animal grows to about twenty inches long, thirteen inches at the shoulder, and they weigh about six pounds. This nocturnal animal is very timid and disappears in dense vegetation at the least hint of danger. It is thus very difficult to observe in the wild. It is solitary, except for the mating period. Its diet is quite varied, and includes both plants and small animals.

Deers

Chinese Water Deer Male Skull (Hydropotes Inermis)
Description: The coat is short, thin, and reddish-brown in summer. In winter the coat is dark, dense, and woolly. A special feature of this species is the presence of long upper canine teeth, up to two and a half inches in length, which protrude from the upper jaw like the canines of chevrotains and musk deer. Another unusual feature is the absence of antlers. The front legs are slightly shorter than the hind legs. Length of head and body up to forty inches, with a tail of only a little over three inches. 22 inches at the shoulder, this deer can weigh about 35 pounds. It lives alone or in pairs in dense vegetation. If disturbed, it remains motionless and silent, but if the danger persists it runs away rapidly. In the mating season the stags engage in violent clashes in which the long canine teeth are used as weapons.

Deers

White-Tailed Deer Skull (Ococoileus Virginianus)
Description: In summer the coat is reddish-brown, and in winter gray-brown. The underside of the tail is completely white. Only the males have antlers. Their branches point upward at regular intervals from the gracefully curving main stem. The 39 subspecies vary widely in size: length of head and body up to six and a half feet, with a shoulder height of about a yard. The tail can be 14 inches long. It can weigh about 450 pounds. This deer gathers in small herds, usually of not more than a dozen animals of the same sex. It feeds during the day and at night on branches and leaves of bushes in winter, but prefers to eat tender grass and herbs in summer. If alarmed, it bounds swiftly away into dense vegetation with its tail raised. This "white flag" signals danger, and perhaps assists the group to re-form.
